Avodart (Dutasteride)
The main medical use for Avodart is for “Symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia” or BPH. Avodart is not approved for the treatment of "male hair loss" at this moment of time.
"Male pattern baldness" is a common condition, where men experience thinning on the top of the head and/or the middle of the head. This condition starts normally in the mid to late 20s.
Avodart is available in a 0.5mg dose, and must NOT be taken by women or children. It is taken once a day with or without food. Dutasteride like Finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia) is an inhibitor of the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dihydrotesterone). Unlike Finasteride which only inhibits the type 2 form of the enzyme, Dutasteride inhibits both type 1 and 2. This dual effect makes the medication more effective but also causes more adverse reactions. Scientist currently don't know what effects the type 1 form of the enzyme have on hair growth.
Avodart warning
Women that are pregnant or are planning on becoming should not handle dutasteride as it harm the foetus.
Men should not donate blood for 6 months after stopping treatment.
Will Avodart work for me
Currently Maxpharm.co.uk can't recommend taking Avodart for hair loss as it is still awaiting approval. We recommend using Propecia or Regaine.
